Jacob Ing was the Guardian for the orphans of Allen Robertson, dec'd. The names of the
orphans are not listed at either
entry. There is no mention in the Guardianship records of Guardianship for Nancy Ing's children
(Mary Ann, Allen and
Elizabeth), so apparently they had no Guardians.

Capt. Edward Clinch's Company of the Nash County Regiment (Dec 1778-Feb 1779) found by Jonathan B. Butcher and transcribed by Ransom McBride
The search for Revolutionary War veterans is a continuous one for individuals trying to determine their relationship with one of them. Most of such veterans have been discovered, although it is known that there are gaps in the lists, especially with regard to the short-time of service in county militias. Professional genealogist, Jonathan B. Butcher, recently came upon a list of such militia by chance. He was searching the Nash County, NC Appearance, Reference and Trial Docket, 1779-1785) (File #C.R. 69.302.1 at the N.C. Archives) for a client and noticed some writing on both the inside front and back cover. The writing had been lightly scribbled over and was apparently an old militia list. Paper was scarce during and immediately after the war years, and the court staff presumably used what they could find in compiling and repairing record books for the County.
The N.C. Archives does have a few militia lists extant from the Revolutionary War, but it has
none filed for Nash County.
Edward Clinch, the Captain of this company, may have been the same Edward Clinch who was
the building commissioner
for Nash County and who died in 1779. Sergeant Henry Lancaster applied for a pension in 1832
and was still resident in
Nash Co. in 1835. Sergeant Nathan Horn applied for his pension in Simpson Co., KY, in 1833
and states he was born in
Nash Co., NC on 27 May 1762 and enlisted in the same county in 1779. After the war he moved
to Montgomery Co., NC,
and left for Logan Co., KY, in 1808. Captain Edward CLINCH's Company as found in the above
docket is shown below;
the pay period commenced on 10 Dec 1778 and ended 11 February 1179:

BJ-J/MLB
Dear Sir:
The date which follow in regard to Matthew Ing were obtained from the papers in the claims under File No. W.O. 29953, based upon his service in the War of 1812.
The date and place of birth of Matthew Ing and name of his parents were not given.
Matthew Ing enlisted in Sumner county, Tennessee, and served from January 26, to May 10, 1814, as private in Captain Thomas Preston's company of Tennessee militia against the Creek Indians. He was discharged at Fayetteville, Tennessee.
While a resident of Franklin County, Illinois, the solider applied October 28, 1850, at the age of fifty-four years, for bounty land which was due for his service in the War of 1812. He was allowed forty acres of bounty land on Warrant No. 3092, under the Act of September 28, 1850. While still residing in Franklin County, Illinois, he applied October 28, 1855, for additional land which was due on account of his service, and on that application was granted one hundred twenty acres of bounty land on Warrant No. 77273, under the Act of March 3, 1855. He died in Franklin County, Illinois, July 29, 1864.
Matthew Ing married in Sumner County, Tennessee, date not stated, Sarah Summers. The date and place of her birth and names of her parents are not shown. In 1879, she was aged seventy-nine years and living in Benton, Franklin County, Illinois. She died sometime prior to January, 1881. Matthew Ing had been previously married to Susan Smothers; no information given in regard to her birth or death.
It is not state din the claims whether or not the solider, Matthew Ing, had children by either wife, Susan or Sarah.
In 1878, John S. Norman son-in-law of Sarah Ing, solider's widow, testified in Franklin County, Illinois, that he had known Sarah for thirty years. The name of John S. Norman's wife and name of her father were not designated.
If you desire information relative to the location of the bounty land granted Matthew Ing for
his service in the War of 1812,
you should apply tot he Commissioner of the General Land Office, Interior Department, this city,
and furnish that official the
number of each warrant, the acreage and date of the act under which issued.Very truly
