Pursuant to the annexed order to us directed proceeded to comply with the requisitions therein specified and find a balance due the orphans of Aaron Maner, Jun Dec'd from the Estate of Elias Bryan dec'd the sum of one thousand four hundred and six dollars and eighty two cents with Interest from the 1st day of January. Edgecombe County May Ct. 1822 Exhibit in open court and ordered to be recorded. Test. M.L. Hearn CC[V]531[0 or 8?] State of No. Carolina Halifax District. This certifies that Aaron Mainer was allowed fifty pounds Two Shillings [ ] pence as report of [ ] of Auditor 7th July [hole in copy]. [ ]
In the name of God Amen. I Aaron Maner of Edgecombe Co and State of North Carolina being weak in body but of a sound and disposing mind and knowing it is appointed for all men once to die I will hereby make and ordain this to be my last will and Testament in the manner and form following (viz)
1. I [ ] my spirit to God who first gave it and my Body to the Earth, and as to my worldly goods I dispose of them in manner and form following (viz)
Item 2nd I wish all my just debts and funeral expense to be first paid by my Executors hereinafter named out of my Estate.
Item 3rd I give and bequeath to my son Zachariah Maner the land and plantation whereon I live to him and his heirs forever.
Item 4th I give to my Grandson Marmaduke Manor my young Bay Mare to him and his heirs forever.
Item 5th it is my will and desire that my negroes and two Brandy Stills as likewise all my stock of every description old Esther excepted be equally divided between my children or their representatives.
Item 6th From all my representatives I leave Old Esther to choose her master at her pleasure and for them to support her during her life.
Item 7th I hereby nominate and appointed my beloved son Zachariah Maner and my friend Henry Bryan as my Executor to this my last will and Testament ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and Testament.
Item 8 I give and bequeath to my grand children Levi and Patsy children of Aaron Maner dec'd a note which I hold against my son Zachariah for the amount of one hundred and twenty one dollars the same due with interest from the 9th day of April 1817.
In witness whereof I hearunto affix my hand and seal this 7 day of July 1825
I acknowledge this to be my last will and testament
The within last will and Testament of Aaron Maner dec'd was exhibited in open court for probate and was proven by the oath of Frederick Philips and James J. Philips the subscribing witnesses thereto And Henry Bryan one of the Executors named in the said will at the same time qualified thereto - ordered that the same be certified and the Will recorded.
Test. Mich. Hearn CCIn the name of God Amen. I, Penelope Maner of the County of Edgecombe, and State of North Carolina, being of sound mind and memory, do this the 25th day of March 1854, make, publish and declare the following to be and contain my last will and testament, viz,
First ~ I give and bequeath to my son Thomas L. Maner the sum of one hundred and ninety six dollar (196$) and lawful interest thereon from this time, until the time of my death - which sum and the interest thereon, I wish paid out of the first money, which shall come to the hands of my Executors hereinafter named~
Second~I give and bequeath unto my son-in-law James Pitt the sum of one hundred and sixty dollars ($160) to have interest from this time until my death and to be paid at the same time as that bequeathed to my son Thomas L.~
I have been induced to make the above bequests to Thomas L Maner and James Pitt in consequences of losses sustained by them as Creditors and Trustees of my son Matthew J. Manor, who is now believed to be dead. In case he is living and returns home and pays the said Thomas L. Maner and James Pitt the above sum either before any death or within two years thereafter, then the above mentioned bequests are to be considered as revoked by one-third~
I give and bequeath unto my daughter Charlotte Pitt wife of James Pitt my negro woman [Yancy/Janey - ink blot on copy] and her increase forever and to her Executors and administrators.
[Fourth ]~ My will and desire is that the residue of my property be sold by my Executors on a creditor of six months with interest from the day of sale, and that the proceeds after paying my debts and the legacies before mentioned, together with the expenses of settling my estate be equally divided between my children Thomas >L. Maner, Joseph [H] Maner, John C. Maner, Charlotte Pitt wife of James Pitt and Matthew J. Maner, if living, but in case he is dead then to be equally divided between the four children first mentioned.~Fifth~ I hereby nominate, constitute and appoint my son and son-in-law, the said Thomas L. Maner and James Pitt, Executors of this my last will and testament.
It witness whereof, I have hereunto subscribed my name and affixed my seal, the year, month and day first abovewritten.
Penelope ManorThe foregoing paper writing purporting to be the last will and testament of Penelope Maner deceased is exhibited in open [ ] for probate by Thomas L. Maner one of the Executors therein named and the execution thereof is duly proved by the oaths and examination of Henry E. Odom and Thos B. Wells. the subscribing witnesses thereto. It is therefore considered by this court that the said paper writing and every part thereof is the last will and testatment of said Penelope Maner and the same is orderd to be recorded and filed. And James Pitt one of the Executors therein named comes unto court and [renounces] as such and therefrom Thos. L. This Indenture made this 29th of August in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and four Between William Robertson of the State of North Carolina and Edgecombe County of the one part and Zachariah Maner of the County and state aforesaid of the other part, Witnesseth that for and in the Consideration of the sum of six hundred and fifty silver Dollars in hand paid to the Sd. William Robertson by the said Zachariah Maner at or before the ensealing and delivery of these the receipt thereof I do hereby acknolwedge myself fully satisfied Contented and paid I do bargain and sell confirm Convey and sell-over unto Zachariah Maner and his heirs and assigns forever one tract or parcel of Land with all appurtenances thereunto belonging to or appertaining it Containing by Estimation two hundred and seventy acres be the same more or less and Bounded as follows (viz) lying and being in the County of Edgecombe Beginning on the No side of Beach Run Swamp Begining at the mouth of a Branch on Wiley Robertson line, thence up the said Branch to a literd stump on the road, then up the road to a corner hickrey on Ruben Roses line, thence east along said line to a Corner pine, thence So along Odoms line to a Corner pine, thence west along Odoms lins to a white Oak on Willis Stallings line, thence south along Stallings line to a Corner hickrey, thence West along Stalling line to the swamp, thence up by the Run of swamp to the begining To Have and to hold the above mentioned tract of land together with every Benefit privilege and appurtenances thereunto belong to the said Zachariah Maner his heirs and assigns forever and that the said Zachariah Maner his heirs and Assigns may hereafter [user] have hold occupy and enjoy all the above bargained premises and said William Robertson for himself his heirs and assigns doth promise that the above said premises is clear from all other sales morgages Dues Judgments and incumbrances whatsoever and warrant and for Defend against the Lawfull Claim and Demands of any person or persons whatsoever and the same will Defend of any person or persons whatsoever and the same will Defend unto the said Zachariah Maner and his heirs and assigns forever. I have hereunto set and affixed my seal the day and year above written.
This Indentures made this 31st day of December on thousand eight hundred and four Between William Price of the county of Edgecombe and state of North Carolina of the one part and Aaron Manor of Edgecombe County and state aforesaid of the other part, Witnesseth that the Sd William Price for and in Consideration of the sum of two hundred and Fifty Dollars to him in hand paid by the Sd. Aaron Maner the Receipt whereof he doth hereby Acknowledge himself fully satisfied Contented and paid have granted bargained, sold conveyed and confirmed to the above Sd. Aaron Maner one certain tract or parcel of land lying and being in the County and state aforsaid on the North side of Tar river and south side of swift Creek Containing one hundred acres be the same more or less and bounded as follows (viz) Beging upon Mockseson branch at a gum, runing south along Elias Brian line to a corner pine, then west along the old paten line to a corner pin on Jesse Price's line, then North along Sd Price's line to a Corner pine, then near the Sd course so the road to a corner pine on Hardy Price's line, then down the road to a meadow branch, then down the Meadow branch to Mockseson to the first Station To Have and to Hold the aforesaid tract or parcell of Land with all its appurtainces thereunto belonging to him the said Aaron Maner his heirs and assigns forever to his and their only proper use benefit and behoof forever and that the above Sd. Aaron maner his heirs and assigns shall and may from time to time and at all times forever hereafter by Virtue of these presents Lawfully peacably and Quietly have hold occupy and possess the above [desmessed] and bargained premises with all the appertanances thereunto belonging freely and clearly acquited exhonerated and discharged off and from all manner of trouble or Incomberance whatsoever to warrant and defend to the said Aaron Maner his heirs and assigns forever against the Lawfull Claim of any person or persons whatsever In Witness whereof the Sd William Price hath hereunto set his hand and seal the day and date above written.

Know all men by these presents that I Christopher Ing of the State and County aforesaid hath for the good will love and affection which I have and do bear towards Zachariah Maner and his wife Penelope Maner and also for the further consideration of the Sum of five cents to me in hand paid by them hereof the receipt of whereof I said Christopher Ing do hereby acknowledge have granted Bargain'd Sold and delivered unto those their heirs, exons or assigns one certain negro fellow named Peter aged about Thirty-one Years and I said Christopher Ing for my part my heirs execs or admins do then hereby bend myself and every of them always to support and forever willingly defend a good and lawfull right to said Zachariah and Penelope their heirs and Assigns forever ~ this 4th day of November, 1818.

Know all men by these presents that I, Levy Manor of the State of Kentucky and Monroe County, for an in consideration of the sum of three hundred and 80 Dollars good and lawfull money of the United States to me in hand paid by Dennis Lovey of North Carolina Edecomb County before the sealing and delivery of these presents have bargained and sold unto said Dennis Lovey all my right, title and expectations in the property which my Father (Aaron Manor decd lately of the county of Edgecomb) left me by his last will and Testament and I do furthermore request Henry Bryan (the Executor of my fathers will) to deliver unto the said Dennis Lovey or to his order all and every part and particle of property in any wise coming to me by virtue of my said Fathers last will and testament and a receipt on the back of this instrument assigned by said Lovey for my part or dividend of my Fathers Estate shall be a good receipt in full against me my hears and C and be it further known that the said Lovey does not receive this my property in trust as my agent but as his won property his having made unto me full payment for the same; Now if the said Lovey shall draw a negro from my fathers estate I do confirm a Lawfull right in said negro or negros unto the said Dennis Lovey his heirs and assigns forever. Battle of the State of North Carolina County of Edgecomb a certain negro man by the name of peter and do warrant and defend the title of said negro Peter to him the said J.S. These are therefore to show that I the sd James I Philips adm do in and for the sum of One Hundred and Seventy five Dollars to me in hand paid the rest whereof I do hereby acknowledge make unto the sd Penelope Mainer her heirs and Assigns forever a just and Lawful claim to the sd negro girl Nancy against the lawful claim or claims of any person whomsoever. Philips adm of Zachariah Maner decd for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred and fifty dolars to me in hand paid by Marmaduke Bell the rec.t whereof is hereby acknowledged have bargaind sold and delivd by these presents to bargain sell and deliver unto the said M. Bell one negro Girl slave by the name of Mahala about ten or eleven years of age to him his heirs and assigns forever and I the said James I Philips adm aforesd by virtue of the powers invested in me as adm. An order to Court of the county of Edgecom doth hereby by virtue of these presents convey all the right title and interest of the sd Z, Maner decd to and in sd negro girl slave from all lawful claim or claims under the sd Z. Maner so far as is vested me as adm and C. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal this 22nd day of Sept. 1872

This Indenture made this the 30th day of November in the year of Lord one thousand Eight hundred and forty Two between Allen W. Robertson and Rhoda Robertson of the County of Edgecombe and State of North Carolina of the one part and Joseph W. Mainer of the County and State aforesaid of the other part. Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of one Hundred and Sixty dollars and ; fifty cents, in hand paid to the said Allen and Rhoda Robertson had bargained sold and confirmed to said Mainer and by these presents doth bargain sell and confirm unto the said Mainer his heirs and assigns forever a certain tract or parcel of undivided Land, lying in the County of Edgecombe and State aforesaid on the North side of Birch Run and bounded as follows (viz) Beginning at a pine and Sweet Gum on the road Tabbitha Hopkins corner then along said Hopkins and J.J. Phillips line south 146 poles to a small branch then the same course continued 49 1/2 poles to Read Oaks Phillips corner then along his other line West 66 poles to the aforesaid branch then course continued 44 poles to a black gum in beach Run then up the wanders of the same to a black gum in Adams corner then along Adams line No. 20 # 86 Poles to a bay tree in a small drain then N 48 E 90 poles to a pine then N 6 (degrees) West 49 poles to a hickory Adams corner on the Road then along the road 121 poles to the first station said whole tract containing 213 1/4 acres. To have and to hold unto the said Mainer the above named bargained premises to him his heirs and assigns forever and they the said Allen and Rhoda Robertson bind themselves heirs Executors administrators and assigns to warrant and defend the rite and title of the above bargained premises unto the said Joseph W. Mainer his heirs and assigns forever against the lawful claim or claims of any person or persons whatsoever. In Witness whereof we the said Allen and Rhoda Robertson hath unto set our hands and Seals the day and date above written.
Know all men by these presents that I James W. Robertson of the County of Henry and state of Tennessee have constituted and appointed and do by these presents constitute and appoint Jacob Ing of the County Nash and State of North Carolina my true and lawfull agent and attorney in fact for me and in my name to sell and convey by good and sufficient conveyance in fee simple with general warranty a certain tract or parcel of land situate lying and being in the county of Edgecomb and State aforesaid butted and bounded as follows to wit lying on Beach Run bounded by Thos L. Maner James I Philips and others which sale my said attorney in fact is hereby authorized to make for cash or on credit according to his discretion and I do further authorize and impower my said attorney for me and in my name to receive and receipt for all such sum or sums of money as may be contracted to be given as the consideration of said land hereby satisfying and confirming whatsoever acts and things my said attorney may do in the premises in as full and ample manner as if I had been personally present and done the same myself. Personally appeared before me Constantine Frazier Clerk of the County Court for said County James w. Robertson the [b?rgr?vi] to the foregoing Power of Attorney with whom I am personally acquainted and acknowledged that he had executed the same on the day it bears date and for the purposes therein construed. In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the seal of said court at office in the Town of Paris the 13th day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and forty five and the 70th year of American Independence.

The indenture made this 5th day March one thousand Eight hundred and forty six between Jacob Ing of Nash County as agent for James W. Robertson of the State of Tennessee of the one part and Thos. L. Maner of the Edgecombe County both of the State of North Carolina Witnesseth that the said Jacob Ing as agent for James W. Robertson for and in consideration of the sum of Eighty Dollars to him in hand paid by the said Thos L. hath granted bargained and sold James W. Robertsons interest in Two hundred and; thirteen acres of land lying in Edge-comb county and on the North side of Beach Run Swamp and bounded as follows on the West by Henry Adams North by Tabbitha Hopkins East by Jas I. Philips and south by the said Thos L which said land will [app?r] and the said Jacob Ing as agent for said James W. doth warrant and defend the said land and premises to said Thos L his heirs and assigns forever from the lawfull claims of any person or persons whatsoever In Witness I have hereunto set my hand and Seal this the day and date above written.

Know all Men by these Presents that I William D. Petway Sheriff of the County of Edgecombe by virtue of Sundry Vend Expos in favor of A.G. Wells, Joseph M. Maner Thomas L. Maner Adrm and Joseph I Porter serving part and Jeremiah Odom John H. Wells [Sen] N Manning William A. Pope Guardian to Hardimon Pope Redmond [Burn] Guardian and all against the heirs at law of William H. Wells decd and to me directed, did on the 24th day of August 1846 expose to sale at public vendue having previously duly levied and advertised the same agreeably to law one tract or parcel of Land lying and being in the County aforesaid on the South side of Swift Creek and adjoining the lands of John Pope decd Micajah Rose and Henry Davis - containing by estimation one hundred and fifty acres more or less together with the appurtenances thereunto belonging; at which sale Thomas L. Maner became the law and highest bidder in the sum of one hundred dollars for the said land and appurtenances thereunto belonging: Now I, the said William D. Petway Sheriff of the County aforesaid, for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred dollars to me in hand paid by the same Thomas L. Maner at and before the sealing and signing of these presents the receipt whereof I do acknowledge, I do hereby bargain, sell, alien, [enf?aff] convey and confirm unto the said Thomas L. Maner his heirs and assigns forever all the aforesaid tract of land and appurtenances with all right, title, claim of dower and of or unto the aforesaid tract of land with all its hereditaments and [imoli?ment] to the same belonging or in any wise appertaining: To Have and To Hold, to him the said Thomas L. Maner his heirs and assigns forever in as full and ample a manner as I the said Sheriff am empowered by virtue of my office And further, I the said Sheriff, do hereby promise, covenant and grant to and with the said Thomas L. Maner his heirs and assigns that the said Thomas L. Maner his heirs and assigns, shall and may from time to time and at all times hereafter To Have, Hold Possess occupy and enjoy the said premises with the appurtenances free and clear of an from all encumbrances had, made, done or committed by me the said Sheriff or by my order or procurement; and that I, William D. Petway Sheriff will warrant and defend the same to the aforesaid Thomas L. Maner his heirs and assigns forever so far as my office of Sheriff will admit and no farther. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal this 24th day of August, 1846.
