James Andrew Murdock enlisted in the Confederate Army on May 12, 1862 in Verona [Lee County] Mississippi. Originally it was Company D 41 Reg't Mississippi Volunteers, then it became Company K of the 41 Reg't Mississippi Volunteers in approximately June, 1862. According to the Archive records, he was injured in the Murfreesboro Battle, Tennessee December 28 1862 - Jan. 3, 1863, and he was in the first charge to the front. It also states he was injured in Chickamauga on September 21, 1863. He had to have surgery for both injuries.
James Andrew Murdock received a confederate pension from September 13, 1907 until his death on Dec. 28 1914. By the time he applied for the pension, he had Bright's disease and other complications. He served in Co. "D" Col Tucker's Regiment. He was furloughed after wounded until the end of war. He served for three years. Attached to the Pension Application is a letter dated Jan 13, 1917 from Mrs. A. Bushy, 629 West Jefferson Street, Dallas, Texas, who implies she was a relative of James Andrew Murdock, but the letter does not state the relationship.

James Andrew and John L. received two of the original land grants for the Colorado County area. The map in the Nesbitt Memorial Library in Columbus, Colorado County, Texas, shows the lots. I have a copy of the part that pertains to them. I also have the deeds for the properties they owned in Colorado County and Lavaca County as follows. In March, 2000, I went to the Texas Land Management Office, and I now have copies of the original land grant records to John L. Murdock and James Andrew Murdock which was part of the Eliza J. Hagan plot in Colorado County. They are extensive records, but nothing genealogical. There were two earlier Murdocks - John and James - but I'm not sure if they are this Murdock family. I also have copies of those land records.
